All, Went to Johns Hopkins on Friday for an interview. Completely awesome. ;D Reed Hall is a bit Hereford-ish ... but the students are chill. I was impressed with the faculty ... overwhelmingly so, and the School of Public Health. The interviews were COMPLETELY relaxed. My interviewer had about 1000 degrees and accomplished anything and everything imaginable in a lifetime. He started the interview with "so, I look at this as your time and your dollar. How do you want to do the interview? I can ask you questions, you can ask me questions. I'll leave that up to you...." The student interview was even better. She was a very interested and good conversationalist, and we walked around for about 15 minutes trying to find a room. Defintely an awesome experience. I checked out the gym near the school with Jesse Bible, the weight room is "adequate" but nothing impressive. It resembles a 1/2 size mem gym that is a little more depressing. The area is safe. There is literally a guard on every corner of the med campus, its not just a sound bite. As I was driving through Baltimore Thurs night, I didn't feel "unsafe" once. I am from Richmond, so maybe that helped .... there were sirens that night, but you hear those near a hospital. Overall, JHMI is an awesome school, and I look forward to hearing back from them in Nov .... Coops

I just returned from an interview at Michigan. The process there was three one-on-one interviews in a row, around half an hour each. They were very relaxed and informal. The tour of the hospital is worth taking because it gives you a sense of what a tremendously large facility they have and you get to see a picture of Jack Kevorkian as an undergrad there (inspires great confidence in their ability to train responsible doctors). The campus is pretty and very similar to Charlottesville in the sense that it is a liberal hub surrounded by a relatively conservative community. I get the sense, however, that the winter months can be cruel as every building in the whole place is connected by walkways such that one would never have to go outside. The school is very quick about letting you know if they want you (I knew by the time I got back into town) but they say they are slower in notifying students who are on their wait list -- which they described as "very active".
